Where i* Malaysia?

Hi readers,

I know...I know..don't kill me coz I haven't updated for such a long time.Well, truth be told, maintaining a blog is not as easy as you think it is. While many of you might think the hardest part is the writing part, it's actually the lack of ideas and inspiration that stops one from regularly updating his/her blog.

Since I got here two years ago, I've had quite a few asking me about malaysia. As highly as we would like to think of Malaysia, it is no where compared to countries like Singapore and Thailand. Thailand's popularity of course comes from their food. You can't walk for two blocks without seeing a Thai restaurant around. Tomyam goong, pineapple fried rice, they're just everywhere..hahaha..

Two days ago while I was working out in the gym, this african american dude started to chat with me. Don't ask me why, but he did. So after 2-3 minutes of random conversation, this is the rest of it

Leroy: So where u from??

Me: Malaysia

Leroy: Cool, where i* malaysia?

I didn't quite hear him so I assumed he asked "Where in Malaysia?" , since that's what's usually asked of me whenever I said Malaysia.

Sim: KL..erm Kuala Lumpur.. (I say this all the time since KL is the most recognizable place in Malaysia and to avoid explaining where the heck johor is lol)

What followed were the most awkward 5 minutes of my life, after which I finally realized his question was actually "Where IS Malaysia?"

The good thing is he didn't know where or wth KL is anyway. The poor guy must have thought KL is a continent - with Malaysia in it. -_- I then asked him if he knows where Thailand or Singapore is and to my surprise, he said yes. That's when I realized how picis Malaysia is, regardless of how the government portrays it to be. If we can't even compete with Singapore, a country so small one can barely see it on the map, a country lacking all the natural resources abundant in Malausia, a country which at one time depended on Malaysia for clean water, what's with all the Malaysia Boleh sentiment? 2020? What a joke. Remember, I'm not being unpatriotic here, I love malaysia. I'd choose to live in malaysia over any other country.

But sometimes I can't help but wonder if the day when someone would say "Oh! Malaysia, I've heard about it and it's a nice place isn't it?' will ever come. Who knows? It just might, but I doubt it.

Sorry I haven't had the mood to update my blog..But well, it's not even one month..So considering my disappearance record, this is not bad at all..lol..But I read this and realized "If I don't share this with my friends then I am so selfish coz a smile (in this case laugh, maybe?) can make one's day..

"An insurance office employee was moving to another branch office, so her co-workers decided to give her a going away party. The co-workers ordered a cake from Walmart. The real cake is pictured above. The conversation with the Walmart employee taking the order is summarized below:

Walmart Employee: "Hello dis be Walmarts, how can I heps you?"

Customer: "I would like to order a cake for a going away party this week."

Walmart Employee: "Whatcha want on dis cake?"

Customer: “‘Best Wishes Suzanne’ and underneath that ‘We will miss you’.”

My response???

Everything about it is wrong. If he wanted this to be a joke, he can at least spell "underneath" right.
Well if I show this to my dad, I know exactly what he's gonna say. Why do you think he works in Walmart?

Lost Love

What happens when your loved one dies?

Some people say "I lost the only woman I ever loved".

How about when your girlfriend is far away?

Other people say "It's not love anymore,no one can survive without seeing their partners".

Is it really??

I don't think so....

Lost love is still love. Long-distance love is still love. It takes a different form, that's all. You can't see their smile or bring them to movie or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens.

Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it. People some times underestimate the power of memory. Yet, it is one of the few things that make us human.

Life has to end. But love doesn't.

Our faces are made of many more..

I found this picture online and it's SOOOOOO interesting..I dunno bout you, but for me, this picture can mean many different things - depending on how we look at it. Blame it on Uchicago for forcing us to take art classes - classes where we come up with bull shit meanings for pictures and drawings..

For me, this picture says a lot more than "I'm a pretty picture"..

This picture for me means our faces are not a simple artwork, it is a combination, an integration, a blend of all the different faces we meet throughout our lives. As we grow older and meet more people, we learn from them - we learn from their successes, we learn from their failures, but most importantly we learn from their happiness and sadness..

The Neutral Walk

This quarter, I decided to take a Drama class since it satisfies the art requirement of my course..Although I'm good at acting (developed from many lies told to my parents since young), drama class in US isn't all about going on a stage and act. I had to draw sketches of costume designs for Shakespeare's play, I had to literally build a 3-D model of a stage I envisioned if I was the director of the play.

Before I took the class, my friends who had taken Drama 101 told me it's the easiest class ever.. I don't blame him for that since it is in fact quite easy. But he left out a small yet important detail of the class - TONNES OF WORK!!! haha..

I had my Drama class today..We played this game called The Neutral Walk..All we had to do was walk from one end of the stage to the other in the way we normally walk. That's why it's called the neural walk. I felt like a kid when I heard the instruction of the game. I mean, c'mon dude. The game's basically asking us to WALK. You won't lose the game!! Unless of course you're dumb enough to slip while going across (but that's a different story altogether since if you slip while walking, you're probably a loser anyway, even before taking the walk of shame..LOL).

Sounds easy huh??? You'll be shocked!! When the first guy volunteered (with the lan si who-the-fuck-can't-do-this face) to walk across the stage, the whole class burst into thunderous laughter and went insane. His walk was the MOST UNNATURAL and MOST ARTIFICIAL walk I've ever seen in my life. It was super hilarious. He didn't even finish before he himself dropped to the floor and started laughing!!!

The whole point of the walk is to make us realize that it is extremely difficult to behave naturally on a stage, facing the audience. Even the most common thing, walking, seems the hardest thing to do when we know at the back of our minds that people are watching us, scrutinizing every step we make.

When it was my turn, I just walked across. I didn't think of how bad or funny I'd look. I bet I looked funny, but I didn't care..LOL..Trust me, it's not as easy as it first sounded.

Don't try this at home..
